of Alma gathered on the shores of the Saguenay. To the thunderous applause of the crowd, an enormous turbine produced its very first kilowatts.<\/p>\n<p>In May, seven other turbines were installed and at the end of 1925, the \u00cele Maligne station would become the <strong>most powerful electric power station<\/strong> in the world.<\/p>\n<p>It produced <strong>402 megawatts of electricity per year<\/strong>, beating the record set by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.placepourtoi.ca\/en\/museum\/engineering-wartime-efforts\">Shipshaw station<\/a>, which was activated during the Second World \u00cele Maligne station enabled the entire Saguenay\u2013Lac-Saint-Jean region to develop.<\/p>\n<p>It made it possible to produce more lumber so that homes could be built and more paper pulp so that books and newspapers could be printed. It also made it possible to manufacture many metal objects, from sauce pans and locomotives to chairs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\"
