What the job really looks like
As a mining engineer, you’ll plan and supervise the extraction of mineral resources from underground.
- Perform surveys and preliminary studies of mineral ore and mineral deposits to assess the economic and environmental feasibility of future mining operations.
- Determine extraction processes based on deposit characteristics, the stability of surrounding layers, and the thickness of coverage.
- Locate and plan the layout of mining shafts, galleries, and chambers (especially for underground mining operations).
- Develop suitable drilling and blasting patterns for extraction processes.
- Design, develop, and test computer applications for designing, modeling, representing mines, and monitoring mine conditions.
